Christmas in Strasbourg
The first Marché de Noël was held in 1570 in front of the Cathedral as a manifestation of municipal protestant community. Today, it represents one of the most picturesque experience of Christmas spirit - several hundreds of stall holders that offer traditional Alsace hand-made gifts and products are spread all over the city. During the whole day (but especially on long winter evenings) the smell of mulled wine, cinnamon and hot doughnuts charm the visitors, as well as the music playing by musicians on several street corners. Usually, the main attractions of the Market are the big Christmas tree placed in the main city square Place Kleber and the open-air skating area.
